SIGNING OFF

This is my last post for the school year. : (    Inwill be posting hopefully over the summer. I really had fun in science this year. This year, it was my favorite school subject ever!  Mrs. LaCross really made science fun and easy to understand. My favorite part of science was when we went to Stone Lab at Jabralter Island near Kelly's Island. I also really liked the Cicada Dissection, the IDL, the iTunes U course, the Energy iBook, and the Ants In Space iBook. Science was really, really, really fun! I hope that the future 5th graders can enjoy science as much as I did.this has been a really fun year for me. Here is a farewell cloud art

Balloon Investigation


I think that the cylinder with 15 mL will have the biggest balloon. We had three cylinders with 5,10, and 15 mL of baking soda and vinegar. Then we put a balloon on top of each one and the one with 10 mL  had the biggest balloon. I thought it was really cool.

Homework

For my homework, I want to do an investigation idea. Does light shine at different rates in different areas? I think that it does because in the day time, you can't see the light. In a dark closet, you can see the light. Underwater, it depends on the clearness of the water.

IDL

For the IDL, I chose photo engineering because I wanted to see what I could improve in my school. I felt that it went really well. A success I had was the keynote because I worked really hard. A struggle was taking the pictures and making it better. I learned that sometimes you just need to think. I would actually make the item next time. I really enjoyed this project.

Light

Light is amazing! Did you know that a projector forms light in rays, making a "light source". That is artificial light. That happens in two ways. By burning something or running an electric current through a solid, is making artificial light. There are natural sources of light, too. The sun is an example. Some animals can make their own light by chemical reactions. There is a whole spectrum of radiation, only some of which you can see. When visible light hits an object, it bounces off, and that reflects to your eye and that is how you see. Light can act like a wave or a particle. When it acts like a wave, it is vibrating electromagnet fields. When it acts like a partical, it is paked into packets of energy called photons. Light can travel through empty space. It travels in a straight line but when it hits something, it changes direction. The light from the stars in space has to travel thousands of years to get to us, and light travels fast!! It is so fast, that it can travel 300,000,000 meters per second. When you hold up a mirror, the light reflects back to you.
